(i will point out that "guya" is actually a japanese word and so Guyatone should be pronounced "goo-ya-tone," not "gai-a-tone." just in case you're interested.) Then shouldn't it be "goo-YAH-tow-nay"? (It brings to my mind the picture of a man with a sword bowing in respect)

Mine's pretty simple. I always try to be nice and do well by strangers I meet, sometimes even go out of my way. Things like gather up shopping carts from assenine locations for the Wal-Mart guy, hold doors open, smile and wave, that manner of thing. The fact is every time I do it, I hope to be just some random guy who does something nice, who, to the person I'm doing it for, is a total lifesaver. Hence, RandomHero. =) funny how RACs are so easy to do, but sometimes make a world of difference to the recipient. the more people do them, the nicer the rest of the folks act. it just snowballs into a generally pleasant society.

Thank you for the warm welcome Bam. Its funny when you first get into guitars you dont realize at the time the choices, the differences and all the pros and cons of buying and setting up a guitar to get that much sought after tone. Some of the articles you gentleman post on GN2 baffles my mind. Its a real passion and its wonderful to see.

RandomHero,
Random (or not) acts of kindness. I love it! When one cuts one off in traffic, it cascades.
When one lets one cut in, the same happens.
While I never had a nickname, I do have several nicknumbers.
1.6180339887498948482045868343656 is certainly one of them.

Hey ya'll,
I joined back November , 2005 and only had 1 or 2 posts...I forget, but got good info. I had another question the other day and was warmly received and AGAIN!! got real good info.
Unklmik asked me to swing by here and perhaps mention where I got my nickname of Leadfingers.
WEllllll.... Long story short, new front man in a band I was in a long time ago wanted me out, referred to me as Leadfingers since I was not very fast (but I played clean! HA!) Shortly after that HE was booted out, but the nickname stuck. Hadn't used it in forever, but used it here.
Oh yeh... I still don't play real fast, but I'm working on it.
And for some goofy reason, I usually sign off with my name....go figure?

I figure it's been long enough that we probably have some new members with interesting stories to tell about their nicknames.
Anyone? gitpiddler ... what up wit' dat?
As for me, one summer when I was a kid, an American family came to stay in the same group of summer cottages my family was staying in.
They had a son - Brandon - my age, and we became buds.
As they were leaving, Brandon's dad - a Navy man - tossed me a cap from the USS FISKE (DD842), thanked me and told my dad to come aboard if we were ever in ... wherever ... I don't remember, and we never were ...
... but that cap sure got a lot of use.

"spitfire" because I have always been completely obsessed with (specifically WWII era military) aircraft, and the Spitfire is most beautiful aeroplane ever devised. This is not a personal opinion. It is fact. Accept it. ;D
"23bc" because it was better than "spitfire34857285" and 23bc are the number and initials of my home address, which makes it somewhat personal, and slightly intriguing - several people have asked me how on earth Spitfires can be connected to the year 23BC!!
On most internet communities etc, I go by this name, partly because I like having a single identity, but mostly because its easy to remember who I am when I sign in!

..... the Spitfire is most beautiful aeroplane ever devised. This is not a personal opinion. It is fact. Accept it. ;D Long before you were born (assuming your stated age, 20, is correct), I would sit in my parent's basement working on an extremely detailed (balsa frame and tissue covered) model of the "Supermarine Spitfire". I spent countless hours and, now that I think about it, still never completely finished it! A very fine aircraft, indeed! And a very fine nickname, as well. Dan P.S. ... and thanks for the incidental stroll down memory lane!

Along with a few others who have posted on this thread, my handle is a bit straight-forward, but I can say that I've tried a few variations in the past with quite mixed results: MCBell just looks either like I'm sold at the golden arches, or I'm trying to be a rapper (both things I quite dislike); MichaelCB looks much less like a handle for internet forums and more a kind of electronic communication device, so I went whole hog. Of course, with 'identify security' concerns being what they are, I'm actually thinking about using it less (can you change it here?) Suggestions?

Michael … wait a minute … how do I know your name is really Michael? … ;D I think you may be SOL for now, based on sumgai’s experience. the following has been quoted from a post by sumgai in another thread: “I'm living proof that once a member has "signed off", he/she can't come back and regain the old start date - the software just doesn't allow it. (The topic has been brought up in the support forums, several times. The authors have "put it on the back burner"..... you know what that means, right?) Fortunately, the same name will re-activate old posts such that they no longer read "Guest" for their status. Again, you can see that I first showed up here in January of 2006, not December.” (source: guitarnuts2.proboards45.com/index.cgi?board=suggs&action=display&thread=1177949840&page=2 ) I may be proven wrong, but I believe that if you want to keep your posts and karma, you also have to keep your nickname - as far as I can determine. Fortunately, you only make good, intelligent and respectful posts ... so in the big picture, you've got nothing to worry about. The worst you can be accused of is being an avid guitarist and an intelligent person. Dan

Welcome, irnbru ;D (sumgai might'a got a little cross at me if I caused us to continue discussing your nickname in the "electronics" section ) I know what "IRN-BRU" is by fluke, really. I was visiting what was (probably still is) the Canadian distributor of such products as "Fisherman's Friend" throat lozenges, and was offered a bottle of "IRN-BRU", which they also distributed. I had never heard of it before that day! I had not heard of it since that day! Until you showed up on these here forums! LOL Again ... welcome! Dan

Haha thats awesome! I sure do hope you accepted this offer its amazing! Can't be good for you though especially since they somehow managed to find a loophole in that law which states you must have the ingredients on every bottle you distrubute! Some of their ingredients remain a mystery haha

I may be proven wrong, but I believe that if you want to keep your posts and karma, you also have to keep your nickname - as far as I can determine.Correct. However, there is a workaround, of sorts. While I can't adjust your date of entry when you sign up as a new member, I can adjust your post count and Karma points. (Meaning, I can somewhat disguise, or gloss over, the amount of time you've been here.) The only sort of loss is, whenever someone refers to a previous post of "yours", a viewer might think it strange to see 'michaelcbell' as the poster. That would lead to explanations ad finitum, no? I second that motion! ;D sumgai

Thanks to unk for the inspiration. I think your username is static, but the display name can be changed at will - and that's all anybody sees unless you're modifying your own profile. So now I have to think of a new name...

CrazyManAndy...
Well, actually I started out on the internet as littlebroandy (I still use that for AIM). Had some older friends that would call me little bro Andy so I used it. Then I started talking about bombs and different methods of causing destruction in general (don't ask...). So they called me CrazyManAndy and it stuck!

I have found that your nicknumber refers to "The Golden Ratio". I there is one line divided into two segments, one being of length 1.618 and the other being of length 1, the ratio of the larger segment to the smaller segment is 1.618:1. What's neat is the ratio of the two segments combined (length = 2.618) to the larger segment to the line (length = 1.618) is also 1.618:1. Dan

I'd never tried it, and incorrectly gleaned that you couldn't as time progressed. I always wondered why some guys were able to have capital letters in their nicknames ... kinda/sorta comes in handy when you consider that my tagline is a US naval ship. Check out my new nickname "DD"842! All the best, Dan

All the best,
DanI too confess to having blinders on. However, in my case, it may a bit more understandable........ As the Administrator, I can see everything that you can, plus a whole lot more. Sadly, I sometimes forget that you can (or cannot) see 'such and such'. This is one of those times. Indeed, any member can change his nickname anytime he feels like it. I hadn't even thought of that, because I was thinking "only and Admin can see that particular box on the form". Once again, I've been humbled by those who know better. And here I thought my meds were at the correct dosage, too. ;D sumgai p.s. T AFKA michaelcbell......... somehow, my mind is not coming up with the word "Artist" for that particular acronym. Is there something else that might be more appropriate, do you think? ;D
