Sure, why not. In this case, since the ratios are relative to the existing pickups, there's nothing especially special about the golden mean. One could somehow finagle it into use, but its effect would effectively be arbitrary. One is better to plot the harmonic waveforms afoot on a string and place pickups at "opportune" points (oh wait, this would only work on unfretted strings). Surely, the solution is to come up with a mechanism that slides the pickup up and down, according to where the strings are being fretted..?

We shall make use of a pantograph ... We shall call it the pickup'ograph. Your task, Sir, as a self-professed Guitar Nut, is to go forth and make one of these monstrous contraptions.

No, I was in a Denis Leary frame of mind. ;D I guess that would be safer than being in a Timothy Leary frame of mind.

:)Ok. My real name is Archie McLeod III (the third Archie McLeod-hmm how do I use that in a Username?) I'm a very musical kinda' guy so:
Musically Mr M (3 M's as I am the 3rd generation of Archie McLeod in my family-my son is the fourth) I am musical; I am a Mister and M is the last initial. Clever no? ;D

Mines simply "Floyd" backwards; because I love Pink Floyd, it's my username in many places. My other main Internet-Aliases are entwistlefromthewho - because my school nickname was Entwistle and The Doctor.. 'cause the Doctor is cool

OK, folks. Now that I hit the 100 mark, I suppose that I am a fairly permanent fixture around here and I should explain my name. It's realy simple: Clay County Sheriff's Office radio number 8462 = ccso8462 ;D

I like this thread! ;D I obviously didn't dig deep enough to find it when I first joined, but now its popped up again, I've enjoyed finding a little bit more out about you all! Of course, my username means I can contribute absolutely nothing to it... ...except that in a world practically bursting with Andys, it's rare to be able to use my first name as a display name.

Well, when i first joined, i was all agog with the tones of players such as Mark Knopfler, David Gilmoure, and John Frusciante - That is to say, guys who played strats, yet still had smooth warm tones. Hence "warmstrat"...
Although at the time i was planning on just popping in for a quick question, it seems now like i'm here to stay. I am no less a fan of warm strat tones today, although it must be said that my horizons have broadened, and it no longer represents all that I care for in guitar land. Anyone think it's worth changing?

I am no less a fan of warm strat tones today, although it must be said that my horizons have broadened, and it no longer represents all that I care for in guitar land. Anyone think it's worth changing? No, don't change it, as it is reference point that sent you on your journey, and helps define your expanded notions of where and how tone in you head can be achieved in the glorious and odd meld of wood, ferrous metals, magnatism, amplification and carbon life forms. Your description reminds me of Clapton, which I am sure you play better than, just are un-sung. His signature tone was established during John Mayhall days and of course Cream. And that was with a Les Paul (yes!) and frequently with a 335 of all things. So when he went on his heretical flirtation with strats, he spent the rest of his life trying to make them sound --- like a Les Paul. What's up with the mid boost, after all. Gilmore's tone is more humbuckery than single coil. So you are in good company. Warm it up and rock on WS.

Hey Dan(dd842), I just came across your post, and don't see your name on the list yet. Anyway, Sumgai gave me a point for my name back when I first posted. I replied that gitphiddler was my CB handle back in the day. But one of my dad's favorite sayings when asked what he was doin' was he was just piddlin'. They say when you're selling it's a violin, when you're buying it's a fiddle. My projects have all been gitfiddle mutts. I've enjoyed the thread so far ;D

To ccso8462-I'm inspired by that picture. I'm still kinda low tech and even lower spare time to post. I'll work on that. To pacer-I have a Striker that has prolly the worst FR bridge that ever wore the name, and a plywood body that I have shaved. It had a different neck wood than the others on the wall, bird's-eye maple, with rosewood. Now has a FRED p'up and blocked bridge ;D Sorry 'bout the hijack, Mark
