Don't, actually, really know the tune (a friend plays it), so I didn't get to fall in until the 6th. Kool post, Sumgui Friends sometimes question me when I give an alternative name to their chords, or suggest they are a 'so and so' with an added 5th, etc. I don't know much about music but sometimes a little inspiration goes a long way.

A good capo(tastro) should act like a bar and allow fret/barring without getting in the way. For my money, you should fit the capo to bar the strings correctly (up behind the frets, like a fingered barr) and figure out how to work around it.... Yeah, life's a bit*h and then we try to learn to play the guitar....

I started playing way long ago....... Had the same early influences as Knopfler and many others. First interest in the guitar came from hearing Django Reinhardt doing some insane stuff (without a full kit of fingers too!). Then got into a bit of jazz (from the guy next door who was a jazzy guitarist) such as 'Girl from Ipanima'. Went to a few Ska clubs around the mid sixties (in south London). Loved the Bluebeat and such. Then I found the blues and R&B. Then along came the Beatles and the Stones. Then along came Eric, Jimi, Floyd, etc, phew........ what a heap of influences in that period. Later (1970s) when funk came along, well, Earth Wind and Fire, The Meters (excellent sound). Was actually playing with an african band at the time (we hung out a bit with Osibisa), we added a bit of serious afro funk into the set, along side the more traditional afro stuff. Just about all of the above has influenced me in some way, though I try to do my own thing as much as possible. I've been messing with recording lately and the dozen or so songs I'm working on are almost all completely different styles! I'm not sure what styles they are 'cos they are all mixes of styles. LOL. Oh, I like the Lee Ritenours of the world too. Always adding little touches from new guitarists here and there, of course.

Do you try to look at the strings while you are playing? This would cause you to be constantly trying to twist the neck towards your sightline. Painful! Ensure that the guitar is hanging free and keep your head up not looking at what you are fretting. Good luck getting painless

Yes, but 'correct' should be 'correctly'. LOL.... I'm sure there is an optimum distance for each setup. Getting the most info into the pickup without getting too close, kind of.

Yeah, they are nice, unk. He says when he hooks up both cabinets it sounds louder with the same volume settings, neat. Spoke to Christian (Gibson owner) today, he told me this was a limited (100) issue bass. I told him it was awful and he should really throw it in my direction, but he didn't go for it, LOL. Gonna bring his MusicMaster fretless to me to try to get rid of a buzz it has picked up recently. Ahhh, well, just as well I really love my Strat ;+)

Wow mlrpa, that's amazing! Only the tuners are chromed on this one, the rest is a kind of dull grey finish.... Karma coming up, LOL..... LOL, with 500 watts of Ampeg, don't you dare tell him to get a bigger amp I think what he meant (his English is good, but still a little bit missing) was that the Fender sounds a little fuller and dirtier. Well folks, even if I had found out bad news, I love this bass beast.

Hi all, The Gibson Custom Shop logo is silk screened onto the head. Can't find any 'made in ...' info on the guitar. It has a standard Nashville addressed quality check list/guarantee card inside, along with a bag of dessicant from Ohio. Don't know if that helps at all..... 2 EMG PUs active, 2 volume 1 tone control. The controls are very responsive and smooth, no noises there either. No noises, hums, or whatever, anywhere. Fittings look to be good quality, certainly feel very good. Had to tighten the pot securing nuts, which was not easy as the knobs didn't want to come off and I wasn't about to force them Oh, by the way, I'm no bass player, but this beast plays like a dream and, through my little Fender Sidekick 25, sounds lovely. The owner uses an Ampeg valve bass amp (phew... another friend has one and they are, how shall I put it, BASS AMPS). The neck is thinner than my 73 Strat, the action is low and easy. Everything is very much in tune and those deep notes are clear and true. I sat for ages last night just tripping away on this thing, which I usually find hard on basses, and I've played some cool ones on and off over the years. If I had to sit in on bass one night, instead of guitar, I'd be up for it if I could play this beastie My friend say's he prefers this when he is recording because it is much quieter than his other basses (he has about 18 at home, all good ones ). When we rehearse and play out someplace he is using some kind of Fender Pbass. Sounds dangerous in his hands He is Norwegian, by the way, over 6 foot tall and a gentle giant ('cept when we rock serious : Can't wait to get it recorded, later today.... I was just interested in the magic fingers that put this bass together. They sure know what they are doing

Glad you found the problem. I'd weigh up changing the bad fret (since I assume they are all new) with having the other frets filed. Don't know if the former is viable, but I think it begs investigation.

You might also check for a slightly low 5th fret. This may explain why you only have problems there.

I used to have that problem with my 73 strat (micro-tilt). Eventually I loosened off the kneck, pushed it to line up the 'E' but with everything central and wedged it in place with (probably) a piece of business card. That was about 20 years ago and it is still good, lol.....

It might help to attach a thin string to each component you remove, draw it through as you remove and leave it hanging in the body. That might reduce some of the 'chance element' when you go fishing to get the new pots and PUs into their respective places. Just tie them to the relevant string and gently guide them through. Just an idea....

Sorry to appear to argue. My 73 strat has a solid maple neck (no seperate fretboard), thus the only way to get the truss rod in is to channel the back of the neck and put in a filler (skunk?).

Just an idea (based on furniture stuff my ex missus played with). What about using unfinished wood, putting on white paint and wiping it off (leaving just what is in the woodgrain), to leave a white impression. Then finishing the wood.

You should have no problem linking to another's site, legally. I personally think it is what the www is all about. So long as there is no libel involved, which there isn't. Nice to see concern for the issue. Right man for the job....
