Careful how you do this (the above ideas sound great) or you'll be making the post, "Help, my knobs keep dropping off!"

Just to reitterate..... you must use glue, otherwise when you start tuning the strings the nut is gonna slide one way and then the other and it ain't gonna be tuneable........
I just used an epoxy for a nut on a nice hand made spanish guitar. The reason being that I will get it reamed out when it wears out.

On mine (73 strat) it allows sideways movement! So if the guitar gets the slightest stress, sideways, the thing moved out of line:+( I have it shimmed up so it won't move. I also have it screwed out, so no adjustment made, and things are just right. I must say, I'm a happy bunny as far as it's sound is concerned....(especially as it is now hum and buzzless, thanks to GuitarNuts) :+)

Got my maple neck american strat in 73, I love maple necks too! So, been playing it for about 32 years..... I have the same problem, which has left me with a neck with black stains where the finish has 'cracked off'. Some years ago I tried to smooth the edges of the damaged finish, didn't work! I was wondering about bleaching the neck and then giving it a fresh coat or two of finish. Any ideas?

Yeah, Guyaguy, good idea! Had the same problem since I bought my strat (in 73)! So 30 something years later I have a cure, neat...... Up to now I have been winding 'Teflon' tape around the shaft to bind it a little. Have to replace it every week or so.... Oh, those screws are also known as 'grub screws', in the UK at least. Keep on keeping on!

Well, I use mine, with no ill effects to the tuning, on a 73 Strat. Nowhere near as well as Jeff Beck though Mind you I've been playing for around 43 years, so I guess I might be lagging behind on current trends.

I been using that stuff since the sixties, lol... Polly'sHero is right in using it sparingly.
"It is said to effectively mask the smell of burning hemp and unwashed bodies alike." Ahhhh, ha, ha, ha... Love that, je, je, je.
I usually put it on my upper chest, but just a small drop, split left and right. Might try the wrist, as an experiment, LOL...
Been messing with AXE, a girl said it works.... What did she mean?¿

I just changed strings (not my usual brand).... ....tell me about tone unsatisfaction. Seriously, every change, even of your (or at least my) state of mind, seems to effect the final tone.

Hey, Welcome to the active side of GuitarNuts, Lavaman Nice to see a viewpoint from someone other than an end user. This really is a good forum and I'm glad to see it (in my view) take another up step. Back to the thread... Years back, I sold high end stereo gear in London. Mostly brands like Naim, Linn, Meridian, Quad, Elite, Gale, etc. Occasionaly, a magazine would ask to use our demo facilities (my suggestion) to run a side by side product review. Something like, the best 150 pound speakers, etc. Great publicity, 3 or four pages of magazine review set in my shop, and they brought the wine I was also offered many beta versions of amps, speakers, PU cartridges, cables, etc, to listen to and give an opinion. I learned that different pieces of a chain of equipment will intereact in different ways. In this case we have guitars, amps and speaker combinations, with cables as interconnectors (not to mention older joints). I, personally, never got too involved in the technical side of these issues, leaving it to other tech type guys, just on the listening side (I was running west end shops at the time including marketing, sales, orders, etc.). I figured that the higher the general quality level of each piece of equipment in the chain, the easier it should be to find sound differences in items such as cables and connectors. When I left this industry there was discussion about the sexing of cables, LOL That being ensuring that the cables run in the same direction, then try reversing them to see which is best. One guy suggested running the whole system out of phase to improve the sound. Some combinations seemed to show up cable differences better than others. Do you think the same happens with guitars, amps and speakers? </ramble>

Just hopping back to deep's original point, a search on your fave SE for 'Robert Johnsons Gibson L1 guitar' will bring up the news item in question without the pron (if you prefer it that way, LOL).

Are/were there that many guitarists who smash up their guitars? Saw Jimi smash a white Strat' up at the Saville theatre one time in the past. He wrote a poem on it backstage and then set light to it and started getting his own back on the noisy Marshall rig he had............. Amazing just didn't seem to go far enough!

Hello, I'm known here as lunaalta and I'm addicted to playing the guitar! I've come up with many excuses for this need to play the guitar over the years, but the plain truth is I have been addicted to playing a guitar at least once a week (sometimes I do it up to every hour of the day) since I first heard the like of Django Rheinhardt Charlie Christian, Jimi Hendrix, etc, etc, starting some 45 years ago.

Hi Mike, LOL, kind of odd the ad at the top of your page is saying, "Find the best <zooming style='in and out'>Model</zooming> sites here!
Anyway, sadly I don't have the latest flash version installed so I'm perhaps missing some of the features of your site.
Since I am in Spain, myspace, unfortunately, fed me all the site stuff in Spanish. Not a problem, since I'm reasonably fluent after 18 years here. But English seems more fitting.
The eye wobble thing may be down to having a fixed background. It tends to upset smoothness of scrolling.
I'm also on a dial up connection, so, although it didn't take a monster time to download and show the scrolling pics, it may have been easier if they were standard thumbs.
I use my own sites to put my stuff up, so I have no need of the myspace genre of sites.

I read that superglue was actually invented/discovered in the early sixties when scientists were looking for a fast acting skin glue. They passed it by 'cos it seemed to stick to everthing quickly......Duuhhhh....... I actually used stuff like that for my split lips in the winter in London in the 60s.
Of course, it was
