Clearly you do not have the capacity to understand as you have shown elsewhere...if you don't understand Col's circuit, then you don't have the capacity to do any of this....the slightest bit of research would explain this...col's circuit like mine will work from any poweramp module and like many, he too used a very generic LM386 like you already have.

As you clearly do not understand, "he be piss" being the sum total of your self expression, this kind of thing is completely beyond you. That is not being aggressive, I am just pointing out the facts. Posting every day across forums whining that you can't find circuits and judging the dozens given as all being "piss"...as in... "All circuits - do you ahve a circuit for here?"

It is a bit rich to complain that I am aggressive when you follow across forums because you can't understand english or circuit design and simply lack the will to look them up or buy them from a kit.

And you want to 'Sell" them...why would you want a circuit of mine that you consider "be piss" and if you followed the original instructions and really and an effective driver and installation...which is likely the most likely problem you are having...when you consider them not to work?

For others who can read...

First, this is a part of a concerted harassment campaign that has spread across several forum on this subject and aimed at me personally. I am not the only one who has done this project and yet, at no time have other people even when present have been asked for their circuit

But besides that...

What is apparently beyond this cohort is that this project, MY design, is unique in the fact that it is the only one (inspired by the ebow) that runs from a very basic non-compensated generic amplifier circuit. A kit that has been specified, for both the power amp and preamp circuits and used exclusively for the first 5 years can be bought at any corner store here for $15!

It has been replicated many times and with many basic and more elaborate circuits like cols with success and spored many variations. It does work, an amplifier is electronics 101 and if that is beyond the capacities of the DIYer...then there is no way it can work.

Further, many such as this particular person and his accomplices, have demonstrated a complete inability to understand or even follow the most basic instructions. The need to bypass all other pickups in installation (ignored), the need to lower power and run clean as possible (ignored), the ability to follow advice (ignored)....

And then the accusations that this kind of response is aggressive...from someone that calls me and or my work "piss". This from someone that can't understand that if they push a preamp of 100x into a power amp, it will distort and affect performance just as described. And then complain and use the old 'no speaka da english' defense as if I have some obligation to do anything about that?

So...if I am 'aggressive' what do you call systematic harassment and ignoring the propriety rights of circuits design? What do you call using words like "piss", "suck" and "crap" (today's contribution at PG) projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=44024&pid=476196&st=45&#entry476196 or how about "i'll quit asking st from you from now on"...cant take your own advice?

If you can devise a suitable circuit..and there are many and offered...and you can make it and sell it commercially for less than the $15 Aus retail that you can get them for already...well good luck to you...but what is the motivation for the harassment?

It doesn't work for you because you have not the skills to do this project, as simple as that...and whining and targeting me for circuits that are not the problem, is not going to make anything better at all! Me pointing it out, is not aggressive, it is just the facts.

Again....that one won't work - something missing from there (btw - is not circuit, that a board layout - you have schematic?)...has no power amp, only 2 ICs in the list...

IC1 - quad opamp
IC2 - dual opamp

You know, for the nearly 3 years I've been here I've seen posts from user's that come from all parts of the planet. Their English may not be perfect, but their sincere request for assistance is generally accommodated.

Granted, a language barrier and an on-line translator can lead to misunderstandings, but clearly abusive language and tone is inappropriate and will do little to elicit assistance from anyone. As Darwin would have said, you will just be de-selected from the herd and left to wander the tall grass alone with the lions.

Everyone here, from the moderators to the guests, comes here to learn, or hopefully find assistance with a problem. A rare few have a vast storehouse of knowledge and share it quite generously. The fact that there is so much information on this board, that in many cases in not available anywhere else on the Internet, speaks to the generosity and selflessness of the members here. We are all very proud of what we have here, and hope, in some small way, that the knowledge imparted is helpful and appreciated.

This thread is one of the more involved threads on the forum. There is a precise and detailed collection of information imparted here. Granted, I don't understand most of it, but the fact remains that if you read all the way through this, understand the concepts and follow the clearly defined information you should achieve your desired result. If not, then your questions should be specific and you should be able to supply enough information to allow constructive troubleshooting to take place.

I learned something early on here...mostly from the acerbic wit wafting through some of ChrisK's postings...that the quality of the answer you receive is directly related to the quality of the question you ask. In other words, if you don't get the answer you need, ask a better question.

I am not the moderator for this section, and I apologize if this little intrusion on my part steps over a line. We lost a warehouse full of knowledge earlier this year. I would hate to see another wellspring of knowledge depart as well.

Things generally run smoothly and quietly around here. We all like that.

I am a mod on this forum, and I don't think you've overstepped anything cynical1. I've been afraid that I might end up having to lock this thread. To be honest, I think that the 8 pages preceding this one - along with the links therein - have about all the information necessary for success in this build, so it might not really do any harm, but we don't want to discourage honest inquiry and discussion, even open debate, as long as things remain civil.

I've not yet built one of these things myself, but I've read a lot of what 4real/psw/... has posted here and elsewhere across the net. Everything I've ever seen, including build reports from other users says that any little power amp circuit - properly built - will work just fine with a properly built sustain driver. 4real has said a number of times that the basic schematic included in the datasheet for lm386 chip works fine, with a buffer before it and a possible substitution of the input capacitor. Google "lm386 datasheet". Follow this link and pick the buffer you like best (I'd use the opamp one seventh from the top, but that's just me). Stitch the two together.

One thing I have not seen (though I haven't read all 13000 pages or whatever on the projectguitar site) is the recommendation to test the power amp circuit with a speaker before trying to get it to work with the sustain driver. Any smallish 8Ω speaker will do. Test the buffer by placing it between the guitar and any amplifier just like you would a pedal. Does it work and sound pretty much the same as without? Good. Now hook that up to the input of the amplifier and put a speaker across it. Does it still sound pretty good? No distortion? Pretty much full range frequency spectrum? Good. Now disconnect the speaker (power down first!) and connect the driver. If the driver is built correctly it will work.

I think anyone following this has gotten the picture. While we do have a habit around here of wandering...or in some cases, charging off topic, I believe it's time to rein this one in and get back to the matter at hand.

I believe the proper response from counsel in a deposition to this line of questioning would be "asked and answered".

My point is, if you have a direct question, with reference to specific issues you are experiencing, with a description of the specific problem encountered, now is the time to throw it out.

I understand that English is not your first language. I would be non-conversant in your language. Meter readings and schematics are universal. Take the question in this direction and you will find the quality of the responses may improve.

Sorry for tossing my $.02 in here again...but it's cold as a certain part of a well diggers anatomy here and I just got back in from feeding the herd...judgment thawing out accordingly...

If there was any genuineness about this, he wouldn't be coming on the board just to troll like this, reviving threads from 2007...perhaps he is the guy who was banned outright the other day from the UK for instance....contrary to opinion, I am not banned at PG but ignoring this kind of thing for what it is worth.

If there was any genuineness about this...which there isn't it should be apparent...this guy would explain exactly what it is that he is doing that failed to work, just like everyone else does...because if it is the circuit, you have done something radically wrong...but of course it isn't...this is the same kind of long running trolling hammering on about circuits.

Reality is that the circuit is incidental as has been explained...that is the whole point about this project...read the example from the ebow patent for instance "any amplifier circuit known to the art" and in reality...as it happens...an LM386 and still is to this day!

But it wouldn't have to be. Now it is not just a coil and a circuit either...the installation is crucial..and for the response also the kind of signal in and to a lesser extent the guitar itself.

Now this person did not come here for advice that much is clear...I've not been aggressive either here or there. I've spent most of my career working with non-english speaking peoples, so frankly it doesn't wash well for me either and insults them.

Make no mistake, this attack has come straight off the heals of one at PG and daily references of exactly the same things. Like, the desire to sell such circuits not buy at all.

The other thing to note is that this person has a pseudonym that is fairly sophisticated for someone that lacks even basic english skills beyond monosyllabic swear words...yet claims to speak an undefined "foreign" language.

But as has pointed out...no real question has been asked, opinion has been offered 'he be piss' without any qualification and is simply in line with the kinds of nonsense and fiction that certain parties are obsessed with.

It is a fiction that all circuits "suck" or are "piss" because any amplifier is just that as described again and again. If you can't accept that, well...there are more sophisticated circuits in the patents...or how about cols...as I say "he be piss" too? If you don't know who col is or what this circuit does, you haven't read this thread or any other clearly. Yet, how did you build the thing?

It was linked from the other thread and so you found me here under another name the next day. It was linked here specifically because I knew that cols circuit was available here and could be easily found. It was linked because of this 'he be piss' circuit nonsense over at PG as an alternative to anything I might offer as apparently any thing I say 'sucks'...so why come here and ask then?

Of course, because it has nothing to do with any of this and in the last 2 years every thread has been closed down preventing genuine people from getting on line help with these same old lines...no circuit! There are literally hundreds available. And in the end punitive action is required against such attacks.

But just to reiterate what the others have recently put forward...I based this whole design off the concept of a fixed six string ebow like device that was light on the instrument mods, capable of DIY construction and works and proven independently. It is very simple and even built by the very young, many of whom required no help from me at all or the forums and email their thanks when completed over the years.

And since the ebow has been manufactured for decades with the most basic LM386 amp, there is absolutely no reason why that wouldn't be suitable...or as they say.."any suitable amplifier known to the arts" in fact. It is the most common choice and worked for many. This is fact...not "piss"

What is this native language anyway, how does one learn english in an english pub anyway and not pick up something more living in that culture. I'll answer any question that is genuine and where the answer is accepted for what it is worth...but others have answered also. over 22 thousand people have viewed this thread alone, only now has this even been brought up.

The answer is that 'any suitable amplifier' will work, that is the whole point, I didn't make these chips or specify what they need be...so it is no use complaining here that the "be piss".

Now, if you seriously have a question...put it appropriately and it will be answered. The idea that "All circuits - do you ahve a circuit for here?" is ridiculous...the ones offered come from all kinds of source...if you feel that way about them...contact col or RoG or the USPTO...or better yet...how about someone you do respect if there is anyone.

Nothing I have to offer would be anything less than "piss" and I use all these words because they are the only ones offered and always in quotes. It is not for lack of language skills that this person comes here, and the behavior is aggressive and certainly offers nothing to the forum in general.

The aim as always is to close all such threads which has been largely successful preventing others from using it to it's fullest extent...by asking reasonable questions. But it doesn't end there, because a closed thread only sporns another when someone else wants some help on the subject...and the trolling begins again.

But, if you don't like what has been offered, there is col's, and he even gave you the layout, no need for schematic if you actually wanted to build such a thing. There are no need for meter readings, I have often repeated the advice given here of testing the circuit with a speaker...if it works, it will do the job. If it isn't working the problem is elsewhere. The symptoms you describe are very common, but not because of the design, but the failure of the DIYer to live up to the task. You don't blame a proven verified wiring diagram here because one person thinks "he be piss" because he failed to follow the directions. And no one would take this kind of thing seriously if they refused to offer what they had done in any form and approached the forum with such language and attitude.

Now you say you are using an LM386 based circuit...so post the schematic then...if you are really convinced that the problem is there...but even then, if genuine, it wont be the problem if a generic amplifier that works with a speaker but more likely workmanship or the system as a whole.

But there are detractors who have alternatives, they are not very forthcoming with details either, but you might like to pester them for them. Of course, almost all require heat sinking and plugging the guitar independently into a wall wart for power and only one pickup and so not addressing the kinds of switching solutions offered in this particular thread. But they are out there if you don't like what I have to offer or say...i only originated the design you have constructed ~ others proved it!

Nothing can help this person, and all one can expect is continual attacks upon the board as elsewhere. This kind of thing only encourages more of the same. No question has been asked and the behavior should not be entertained really...

I like to build 'The Col' - someone have me the schematic? The layout he posted no looking right. ( (none amplifier power chip on layout board? how the power drive given into strings?) ....too I like to see/understand the electronics flow.

Col is not a member here, so none of us have any further info on that circuit.

If you are able to follow the circuit from the diagram to the point of being able to say it won't work, then you should be able to draw your own schematic thereof, which we'll be happy to review for you. Asking other members to take the time to draw up a schematic for you is asking a lot.
