Been slow today, I’m being naughty and started on the Blue Juice using Vero Board.
One thing I’d like to bring up are favorite pedals. Like if a guy could single out one favorite pedal, what would it be? I’m asking everybody, what’s your favorite pedal?

My favorite: The Boss FRV-1. I'm a 'verb guy and this thing has the goods. I dunno if it's quite as good as the real deal '63 Fender tube reverb unit, but it's pretty goldang close to my ears. If I was a touring guy, I'd probably spring for the real springs, but for my purposes this is just fine- and at about 20% of the cost. But, frets, this discussion of fave-rave pedals should probably be in the Coffee Shop, people aren't likely to click on a thread titled "Very Simple OD circuit" to discuss favorite pedals. With your permisssion, I think we should move everything after Tragic's post to a new thread in the Coffee Shop. OK by you?EDIT: I moved this as discussed. Unfortunately, if I move just a post or posts and not an entire thread, and create a new thread, the new thread looks like I created it. But this was frets idea (and a good one, IMO), so I changed the title to give credit where due.

Absolutely, I should have known to put it there. Sorry☺️
I own that very Reverb pedal!! The great thing about the ‘63 Reverb is it makes any amp sound better. If you know what I mean.

I have 2 pedalboards. One has about 6-7 pedals on it that I seldom ever use. The other is a Boss pedalboard case desiged to hold 3 Boss pedals- the FRV-1 above, a Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive, and a Boss Tr-2 Tremolo. Everything I need, nothing I don't. If you have Boss pedals, their case is pretty cool, the pedals are held in there securely, and there's a cover with a handle so you can unplug both ends, put the top on, and carry it without disconnecting the inter-pedal patch cables. (And, no, I'm not a paid endorser for Boss or anything. But I do like these three of their offerings)

The Dod Fx-96 Analog Echo Delay is by far my favorite pedal. (Only have 2 pedals though 😋) Got it from a Guitar Center clearance sale... it was an open box (did not even come with a box), and it was like $40.00... but, that was so long ago, I don’t really remember. It sounds amazing; I really really enjoy it!

Here's my pedal indulgence, its all of these: Its a full set of Digitech Hardwires. These are brick-solid, industrial-strength and very well engineered units that came out around the time I was getting back into guitar, around 15 years ago. They were excellent but pricey. I picked them all up as NOS about 3 years ago, as they were being blown out online. On the top is poly-tuner, overdrive, distortion and metal, plus a Boss OD3, a germanium fuzz-face clone and my modded Guv'nor II Lower rack, in the loop of my VM, is trem/rotary, chorus, phaser, delay and Supernatural reverb. You cant buy these now!

Where to start? Well this one is a no-brainer- the Origin Effects "SlideRIG". I have too many pedals by far, I love vibe pedals and I have a few, I even have an original and fabled 1960s Dallas Rangemaster treble booster, but you'd have to point a gun at me to relieve me of my SlideRIG. Y'all think you know compressors right? Well if you love Lowell George, this pedal will split your face straight across to your ear lobes. It is designed to achieve Lowell's *tone* that he achieved by daisy-chaining two 1176 rack mounts. I don't think Origin Effects make this model anymore, but the following YouTube clip demonstrates the newer pedal board friendly version and from what I hear it's just as good as my original version. I know a guy from Daingerfield who imported two of them ... Robbie is a great guy too as it happens. e&oe ...

Not at all. If one is not in tune, all the FX in the world won't help!
I've been thinking about getting one. Which do you like?

John,
That’s the “neatest” pedal board I’ve ever seen. I’m trying to boil my pedal board down to about 9 pedals. I currently have 25 pedals but most I use rarely. Here is the lineup I want to prune it down to. * Distortion Pedal. * Overdrive Pedal. * Fuzz Pedal. * Delay Pedal. * Reverb Pedal. * Wah Pedal. * Chorus Pedal * Phaser Pedal and a Looper Pedal.
Where’s your Blue Juice Pedal? I’ve got everything I need to build it, I’m hoping it will become my Overdrive pedal in the list above. I have two overdrive pedals but I want to build as many of my new line up pedals as possible.

I would like to try that one, as I have their '59 Bassman pedal, which is the only pedal I have tried that sounds good when backed off to a slightly distorting tone. Not great for metal but great for blues and other semi-cleans.

One advantage of a board with mostly consistently-shaped slab-sided bricks is that they can be linked by neat double-ended plugs instead of patch cables. The board itself was a shed project made from scraps and leftovers, with a Roland power brick mounted underneath and daisy-chained to all the pedals. Sadly, my BlueJuice developed some shorting electrical issue, after working well for many years, and I haven't been able to trace it yet.

This is not about suggestions for a pedal tuner because everyone has their go to product(s), rather it's just relayed experiences. Like many folks, I have a number of tuners (lost count!) Every Snark I've ever had (three) was consigned to the dumpster even before the coin cell went pancake- both mechanically and / or electronically. So it goes. Across the decades, I have acquired three Peterson tuners, the Android app, the V-Sam, and the StroboStomp. I have listed those in order of subjective ascending merit. The Android app is close to useless (which is odd since the iPhone version seems to be popular.) The V-Sam has too many bells and whistles that will never get used and is somewhat hesitant in getting a lock. Could be a sensitivity issue? It's display is rather muted and gloomy too. They do a visually similar model without all the add on facilities and being less expensive, I wish I'd bought that one instead. By contrast, the StroboStomp is the shiznitz. A Freddie Freeloader three doors down from me kept borrowing my V-Sam until in the end I began to drag my heels, so he bought a StroboStomp for himself. As soon as I saw and tried it, I had to have one. Very accurate, easy to see from standing position, locks onto a note rapidly and holds on to it. (So they can get it right.) I don't know whether they invented the strobe tuning concept, although they may have been first up in bringing that technology to the musical trade. Peterson are or were a top drawer name in strobe tuning, starting off with the giant spendy rack mount tuners that only professionals could justify. I believe the TC Electronics tuner is good- the one that senses all six strings simultaneously, but I haven't tried it and anyway- even alliwing for instantaneous monitoring of the whole guitar's tuning, I don't think it would have the edge over the StroboStomp when on a stage glaring down at the pedal board? frets- the SlideRIG is immediately addictive, but I fancy that unless there's a Stateside distributor, you'll end up smarting just as much as we Limeys do when buying from across The Pond. C'est la vie n'est ce pas? So much for "free trade" eh? "There's nowt so certain as death or taxes". e&oe ...

FWIW, I have a TC Electronics tuner built into my rig and I love it...HOWEVER, this setup is within an 'effects enclosure' that sits ON TOP of a Roland Cube 60 (which also sits on a stand)...so everything is a lot closer to my ageing eyes than it would be if it was on the floor..
That said, the display is certainly BRIGHT (!!) ...It can be easily seen on the floor, but as to actually focusing on what it would be saying is largely a matter for the standard of the individual's eyesight.
Beautiful full bypass and no colo(u)ring of the signal, BTW. Super easy to hit the button between numbers and have an instant six-string readout.
RRP in OZ is about $150 AUD, although I managed to get it reasonably discounted without a great deal of effort...got it for around 100 bux if I remember rightly.
Peterson tuners over here are about the same price as the annual budget for a small country town......
HTH
As to 'pedals', when I am not playing through the fore-mentioned rig (which has the singular purpose of making a Strat sound like an acoustic guitar, that was originally used to record the rhythm track for a group we now mirror as a particular tribute act), I otherwise play synth-guitar and everything I need is in one (slightly larger) box.... ...thank you Mr. Roland.

reTrEaD, that’s spectacular! 😀 Do you think the big modern LED light was causing the echo, or was it an off camera pedal? The market increase for non-LED lights may cause incandescent dimmers to be welcome in OZ again.

I loved the (as ChrisK would say) the market speak feldergarb. The hydrogen something socket something something delivers "pure voltage" to the filament. No one wants any impure voltages in their pedals.

while tuner still most useful in my opinion, this is the only pedal i tried (after repairing for a guy) and immediately went out and bought. used before distortion (or cranked amp) it's shoegaze heaven (only minor nit to pick us the lack of a spring reverb, which would make it a swiss army reverb)

frets... the Bulb seems to be a 5 year old “April Fools joke”. 😔 But, it would be exactly brilliant. 🙂 —- To clear imagined confusion, my other pedal is a DOD ice box stereo chorus. It is like breaking a pot of water while carrying it to the stove. The, now unsupported, Fender Fuse, with its ‘63 Spring Reverb, is like being blessed with sitting down to a Cajun feast with a group of great friends using nice silverware.
