Pish Posh, I say! All the other cool dudes here have karma. Not that your posts dont speak for themselves, but I do look at the karma when a guy i dont know posts. Some board cred to let ppl know you know your horse hockey wouldnt hurt. I suggest you put your karma at 30 or so and keep it to that if you're shy about it

I'm not one to lick a gift horse in the mouth, i wanna play!
guitar or bass, and i have drums, and could prolly pull it off if we dont have a real drummer. I have Sonar and all the infrastructure to record with.

So, who do we like for vintage tube amp repair in Seattle or Northward up to Bellingham? For my 73 bassman100 head. The Normal channel has been broken for years, and recently, the amp has been intermitantly cutting out to like half power and wimpy. (on the Bass channel, the only one i use) I can sometimes get it back to working right with a Fonzie whack. You can def hear wires shorting or whatever when you smack it. OTOH, the schematic for these looks simple, I could prolly find the loose wire...but i dunno about tubes and biasing and all. Yes, mom, I will be careful about discharging the big scary caps before opening it

Oh, absolutely, I tend to think things over in my head, research, prototype, and ask questions from here in my office before even heading out the workbench. Sometimes i get excited and buy stuff before that whole process is done, though Your tone is fine, i take no umbrage So, I see now that the main function of the kill switch is to short out the jack, completing the circuit from the amp. Not, as I originally assumed, to simply cut the hot wire from the pups/volume. The idea of killing something by grounding it out instead of simply cutting a wire is coming to me slowly, as you wouldnt want to do that in house wiring, which I'm a little more familiar with!!!

Well, i find that there are more switches in my little box than I have plans for in my current mod ;D So, I redrew Wolf's diagram from www.1728.com/guitar.htm just to make it easier for my mind. Wolf says that in this circuit, the coil cut only works on the Series position. Is it possible to have the coil cut switch work in either Series or Parallel? So that, essentially, the coil cut would override the S/P switch?

OIC, I dont have to hook the Hot from Vol to the switch at all, just use 2 terminals to ground the jack hot wire, right. whammo! you're outed as a noise freak! Bad ju-ju. Particularly when it can be avoided right at the start of things. Ok, I'll bite, how can it be avoided?

ash, you mean i dont have to ground the momentary side? Just cut the circuit? lol, sumgai, I'm pretty sure you said the exact opposite in your two paragraphs!

There was this Ampeg VL-503 that is pretty cool. It has pre and power amp volumes, with an attenuator, too. I only got to play it for a little bit, in the dude's appartment. So we had the pre and power dials on 12 and used the attenuator. I just remember it was freaking insane sounding, like you could hear the tubes melting, the distortion was so gnarly. www.leejackson.com/VL503.htmwhoops! can you put size attributes in the img tag? fixed.

Ha! a belated thanks, man!
We partied and jammed all night long at my gemini brother's place. One of the drummers passed out into the (lit) fire pit around daybreak. Good Times!

so now your drummer complains he can't hear you quite enough. good! he'll play a little quieter. and the bass player will turn down a bit too. unk BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!!!! The drummer? will play a little quieter? What planet you from, man?!?! ;D ;D ;D Well I've never tried any of the power soaks and whatnot, but it is my belief, (and that of messers Fletcher and Munson [loosely translated]) that what you like about your tone is not just that of the tubes melting but the actual volume, spl, in the room. I just dont know that you can ever get "that" sound at lower volume. I bet you can get close enough for rock and roll, though.

My guitar amp is my bass amp. Although I've been playing guitar a bit longer than bass, I'm known as a bass player in my circles. Then I got a Vox Tonelab LE which got me so rev'd up, I got a new strat to go with it. And then, I find this place with all the mods and fun stuff. I'm rebranding myself as a guitar player now So, I'm playing thru my '73 Bassman 100 1/2 stack. The cab is the 4x12 'pyramid', I call it the vortex. All 4 speakers aimed in towards the middle. Kinda like the planet killing laser on the death star. This thing has been roaring like a beast since I was in high school, 1987. What's funny is that I often play thru the "Bassman100" model in the ToneLab into my Bassman100 But the model is based more on the 4x10 combo. I also really love the JTM45 and Plexi models. The cab is a little colored to really get a good Mesa crunch/chug sound going, but it suffices. And, when I'm trying to be a little quieter, I play through my Pignose Hog30 and solid state Gibson 1x12 simultaneously (with Tonelab). The two really compliment each other, the Hog30 gives a nice fat meat while the gibson has more clarity.

I just installed a goldo backbox and it does work as advertised: joe.emenaker.com/TremStabilizers/BackBoxAuction.html These, though, are no good for the guys that want to rest their palm on the vib and jiggle it from there, like this Tremma. It purposely restricts that action. You *can* pull up with a back box on, but its stiffer than diving.

haha, no, I'm not much for vintage guitars. I like em new and shiny and with lotsa switches and knobs. But, I digs me some twangy warbly Surf! And rockabilly! Rev Horton Heat (see: Wiggle Stick) style, if you please Do you think this Tremma would be good for that? I dont, but i think it would be good for a LP or PRS that you didnt want to route into. And the vibe he's puttin' on those lead licks is pretty unique.
