Funny ... in between the first well wishes for BAY and this second round, I actually had the opportunity and pleasure of briefly meeting the gentleman.
I am sure it is no surprise to any of you that I found the organic version of BAY to be a great guy. And he runs a cool little shop in a quaint little town to boot.
Happy Birthday, BAY!

Fergus ... I hate to tell you this, but I found another lefty donor ... a sweet Takamine that had an unfortunate and devastating crack in it ... and ripped out the preamp and undersaddle pickup for installation in the guitar above.
Sorry about extracting two lefties out of the guitar pool - it was unavoidable. I can tell you that it was all for a good cause - it worked out great for me.
Cheers, D2o

My brother has my Blueridge, which was bought for me by my parents as a - gasp! - reasonably priced entry level guitar at that time. Still a sweet guitar, but inexpensive no more!

jfp - I may be a bit slow today ... are you looking for verification that .05* and .10 will give the free .033? If so, they will.
I hope that answers your question, but I suspect you are looking for something else that I am not quite getting. Sorry about that.
By the way, those sound samples are all with the tone set at zero, if that is any indication of what you have to do to actually notice any difference in tone ... and keep in mind that I used higher values.
D2o
P.S. *.005 will be pretty much useless, as will the resulting free value of .0047.

Tone is a subjective thing ... I farted about a bit here and found a combination I liked, although I did not use the values required for the true bona fide "Woman Tone". I hope that helps. D2o

Would it be possible to make it so that whenever somone sees the page, it automatically smites kyle? No, I don't think so...... But I do believe that I can fix it so that every time KIIMH logs in, his Smite rating goes up by an order of magnitude. Would that be good enough, yew? I guess, and not that I ordinarily endorse this sort of thing, but I guess if you are logged in and click the colored text in my signature line ... well I'm not sayin' what will happen.

Dear forumites, old and - in particular - new, While exalting someone who has helped you is no doubt appreciated, smiting someone - for any reason - is not. I caught the smite you applied to one of our most valuable members today. That is bad juju. I am not naming names ... just don't let it happen again. No smiting, boys and girls. Let's all get along - 'nuff said. Good night. D2o

Thanks, C1 - I have Chris' birthday in "KIIMH"'s signature as a reminder. However, I had not anticipated how little I would be able to participate in the forum, so I kinda forgot. Thanks for your thoughtful post/reminder. God bless you, Chris. Lost but not forgotten. D2o

I really do miss Chris. Bummer to have this celebration, but glad we knew him to remember him.
Summy, I'd love to join you all more regularly, but time is very tight.
Best regards, D2o

OK, I'll bite . . . To my mind, the biggest "bummer song" in the history of pop music has to be Ray Petersen's 1960 hit "Tell Laura I Love Her". This song is so over-the-top, maudlin, depressing and corny at the same time that, in the right frame of mind, it's actually unintentionally hilarious. Substance abuse helps with the hilarious part . . . Yes, pretty bad, indeed. When I was about 10 I was madly in love with a local gal named Laura and used to play this song all the time. Cheeee-ee-ee-s-eeeeee! D2o P.S. recognize my avatar from somewhere?

Hey all,
I wish I could write more than time will allow. Fortunately, each of your postings has said what I wanted to say - in one form or another.
When I arrived at this forum in the fall of 2006, I received a lot of help from a lot of people - not the least of which was UnklMickey (RIP) and, of course, ChrisK (RIP).
I will be honest and say that I was initially put off by Chris' posts. Just who was this irascible, sarcastic person?
Unlike everyone else who jumped in with their version of help (thank you all, by the way) - this Chris guy seemed to want to hold my solution hostage ...
Just give it to me!
Just give it to me, eh?
Oh, no ... never so easy with Chris.
In the end, when I became a little less defensive about my ignorance and a little more open to learning ... well ... a lot of lessons there.
I surely came to appreciate his razor-sharp wit and endless patience to help people to understand.
Thanks for the ride, Chris. Vaya con dios, amigo.

Dear forumites:
I have been presented with an opportunity that will result in drastically reduced access to the forum, not to mention much less time to contribute even if I had access.
I am not saying good-bye … I just wanted to wish you farewell before the schist hits the fan, and thank you all for your knowledge, contributions, sharing and friendship.
Farewell, D2o

BAY - if the subject you have arrived at discussing is guitars, you are pretty much forgiven ... no matter how you arrived at it.
In your case, though, you are beyond reproach - it was an honest intention that simply didn't pan out.
Tell me of even one person that this has not happened to!*

I don't know, but I would imagine that - at some point - there would be too much density to allow the wood to resonate, and consequently there would be very little there to sustain in the first place. That's just a guess. Sounds like a Lignum Vitae Les Paul would make a helluva good boat anchor, though - no matter how you look at it! D2o

i would use iron wood .... you cant get heavier than that Ha! You are right about that! "Iron Wood" is a class of wood that includes Lignum Vitae - a wood so dense that it sinks. It was used primarily as marine bearings by the navy, and much less often in luthiery (Pete Seeger's long-neck banjo has a neck made of Lignum Vitae). D2o

ijws, I had another listen after reading what you wrote, and have to give you kudos for your observations, for putting them fairly eloquently into words, and for having the guts to share them with yew. D2o P.S. ditto to you, yew ... you seem to have received what could be taken as criticism as "criticism" (the constructive kind).

cyn brought up one of the things I was thinking about - ... not to add to the pain regarding your guitar, but ... Where did these buggers come from? ... are there termites in the house or apartment? Regardless of whether it is your place or someone elses, the dwelling in which you live is likely someone's biggest investment, and where there is smoke there may be fire. Protect your guitar - for the love of God, man, protect your guitar. But don't forget to do what you can to protect the bigger investment! Cheers, D2o

Hi yew, Thanks for putting this out there for us to listen to! Very cool. I had a listen, and was reminded of how difficult it is to give feedback when I don't know what the song is sort of "about". I don't get a vision of bombing down the road, or lying on the beach or anything when I listen to this, so I (and, I suspect, we) may need a few hints about what you're trying to do and where you're going with it. Can you share that with us? What made you write this? Is it really a sad song, or are you being self deprecating (if it's the latter, you needn't be ? Most importantly, what goes through your head when you listen to the posted recording? Thanks again - cool of you to trust us like this. D2o

Hi bennie, and welcome to GN2! If it's a strat, you should be able to very easily unscrew the jack from the body and slightly bend the tip in - so that the patch cord tip and the jack tip have a tighter fit. Don't make it too tight ... you can adjust it to taste before screwing it back in. It's a 2 minute job and it's free. Why not try it and see if there is any improvement? D2o

Sage advice.
Yew, don’t take sumgai’s comments as personally directed at you, by the way.
I’ve been the creator of posts that others have responded to, and so it feels like the response is directed at “me” … and it sort of is, of course - as I’ve put myself out there … but that doesn’t mean “I” was the “you” in the response.
That applies to you too. You post - seeking a response, of course … but the “you” isn’t always you, yew.
In this case, I believe “you” is the RE's client, who may or may not be whiney.
You, yew, did not seem whiney, and I commend you on offering a respectful post, while defending what you believe to be the case, based on your observations, and for offering such sage advice for a young man – so as to diffuse and avoid any perceived contempt of the forum, so to speak.
However, not to worry! We allow healthy debate here, so long as it is respectful and based on some reasonably credible source – including observations through life experience.
Neither you nor sumgai seem to be in any danger of breaching any such boundaries here.
“Yew” are saying that the mic lines are definitely hooked up, and sumgai is saying that - while that may be the case - try finding that mics output on the final product (multitrack recording can presumably pick and choose what recorded tracks will actually be used).
In other words, yes the mics are real and the mics are recording, but the recorded tracks may never see the light of day.
My only comment on the validity of either statement is that each is plausible ... and I’ve learned from reading both.
Your thoughts and comments are welcome here – and, if you are legitimately sure of something that another member or members may be unaware of, bring it on so we can learn from it.
And vice versa, okay? (after all, sum folks have been around the block a time or two)
Sorry for the long-winded post. Hey, I'm down on words this month and needed to make quota!
Welcome aboard, yew.

could somebody tell me if my treble bleed on a tone pot would work.. has anyone else tried it? Hi yew, The tone pot does not adjust the volume of the signal. It adjusts the frequency of the signals that it allows to pass. You use the tone pot to muddy / darken the sound on purpose. You use the volume pot to lower the volume, with the (usually unwanted) loss of tone that the treble bleed tries to mitigate. The treble bleed is kind of trying to achieve the opposite of what the tone is trying to achieve. I have no idea if a treble bleed on a tone pot would actually do anything, but if it does you wouldn’t want a tone pot treble bleed to counteract the reason you have a tone pot in the first place, would you? Cheers, D2o
